Did you know that choosing leaders is a human rights concern?

The Emirates Human Rights Association (EHRA) has asked the National Election Committee to enlist it as an observer of the upcoming Federal National Council (FNC) Elections 2015.

"The FNC plays a great role in fulfilling the citizens' needs in all walks of life and therefore, it is important that a civil society organisation like EHRA should contribute in observing the elections," said Mohammed Salem bin Dhuwaen Al Kaabi, Chairman of EHRA.

Al Kaabi added that the request emanated from EHRA's keenness to ensure that elections are conducted properly, efficiently, and fairly and to guarantee a successful elections process, in line with the article 21/3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Commenting on EHRA's request, Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of the National Election Committee, praised the role of the national Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in the country's development.

He added that EHRA and other NGOs' requests to observe FNC elections will be reviewed in the committee's next meeting. –End-
