ABU DHABI -- The UAE media has successfully
managed the difficult challenge of reporting on the bravery and sacrifice of
the Emirati men and women fighting in Yemen, while also informing both, the
inhabitants of the UAE and the international world, about the vital importance
of the struggle in Yemen and why the UAE is committed to the restoration of
legitimate government in Yemen.
In its editorial today, Gulf News said that at the
Emirati Media Forum this week, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of
Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, praised the UAE
media for its role in supporting the UAE armed forces in their task of
defending the region’s stability.
H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, congratulated the Emirati
media on its coverage of the UAE’s role in the crisis in Yemen and its work in
promoting positive citizenship in the UAE.
"The terrible shock of the day, when 45
Emirati servicemen lost their lives in one incident, was a transformative
moment in the life of the UAE, as the nation recognized the sacrifice of its
young people and celebrated their courage while also mourning with their
families at home," the paper said.
It underlined that the media played an important
role in carrying these events to the UAE public as a whole, both Emirati and
expatriate, making abundantly clear both, the seriousness of what is happening
in Yemen and the commitment of the UAE to help the legitimate government of
Yemen restore good governance in that troubled country.
"Both the Arabic and English language media
in the UAE have risen to this challenge, and, in particular, it has been very
important that the media helped portray the unity of the country at this
testing time," the paper said.
It concluded that the UAE’s English-language media
also has an additional role in making sure that the international world knows
what is happening in Yemen and continues to understand the importance of
victory as well as support the coalition fighting to restore the Yemeni nation
state and reject Iranian-backed interference.
