Ceasefire in Yemen: Prelude to peace

RIYADH -- The leadership of the Arab coalition forces in Yemen has announced that a ceasefire will begin at 09:00 GMT (12:00 p.m. local time) following a request by President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, while retaining the right to respond to any breach.
Saudi Press Agency, SPA, reported that a statement issued by the General Command of the Coalition Forces said that Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi sent a message to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, informing the leadership of the coalition that the Yemeni government has decided to declare a 7-day ceasefire. "The ceasefire will last for a period of seven days from the 15th to the 21st of December in conjunction with the launch of consultations, and will be renewed automatically in the event of the commitment of the other party," the statement said.
It warned, however, that it reserves the right to respond in case of any violation by the rebels, said SPA.
The leadership of the Alliance stressed it will continue to support the people and government of Yemen in order to reach a political solution to end the crisis and help the government in addressing tasks and duties for maintaining security and stability and fighting terrorism.
