Ports getting stricter

National Committee of Bio-Security was today briefed during its second meeting for 2015 regarding recommendations of the first meeting, in the presence of members of the committee and representatives of the federal and local competent authorities.

Chaired by Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, the meeting was held at the Ministry. 

During the meeting, the minister commended the efforts of the work team, stressing the importance of unifying efforts that contribute towards enhancing a sense of harmony and strengthening the integration process between the federal and local authorities in line with the UAE vision 2021 to build an integrated biosecurity guidelines to strengthen the security and safety of the nation as well as achieve the Ministry's strategic plan to achieve this vision.

The participants stressed the importance of developing biosecurity guidelines and procedures for ports nationwide. They also reviewed the resolutions of the UAE Second Bio-security Conference, which was a success in terms of the number and diversity of local and international participants. The resolutions included upgrading capacity building, periodic training to ensure a state of preparedness and expeditious response, and the need for uniform biosecurity policies and procedures as well as focusing on enhancing awareness in the community. –End-
