FUJAIRAH -- The Governments of Ra's al-Khaimah and Fujairah are planning to impose an environmental levy on all their natural resources products as part of legislation to support their policies to reduce pollution of the environment, to increase environmental awareness and to contribute to the sustainability of industries exploiting natural resources.

Dr. Saif Al Ghais, Executive Director of Ra's al-Khaimah's Environment Protection and Development Authority said that the measure seeks to make a contribution towards the necessary measures to implement environmental policies in the two emirates, with the aim of reducing pollution, protecting the environment and supporting development and infrastructure projects in the environmental context.
Saif Al Afkham, Chairman of the Board of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, said that the introduction of the tariff will contribute to the funding of environmental awareness and of technological and industrial initiatives to promote conservation of the environment. He added that a systematic regulatory regime will be introduced and implemented to obtain the maximum benefits from the new levy.
