Here, streets are first-class

 

DUBAI -- The UAE has been ranked first globally in the Quality of Roads Indicator, according to the Global Competitiveness Report issued by the World Economic Forum, for the year 2015-2016.
The Quality of Roads pillar features the quality of railroad, port and air transport infrastructure.
The win came as a result of the sophisticated infrastructure projects in the country aimed at achieving the UAE 2021 vision, and which are in line with the international standards adopted by the country to become one of the best countries in the world.
Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Public Works, hailed the UAE leadership's unlimited support, that makes it possible to achieve the best for the UAE citizens and expatriate residents. He also stressed that the trophy was a result of the efforts exerted by the UAE under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
He also added that the ministry and other competent authorities, which paid attention to the environment, will continue their efforts to accomplish the UAE Vision 2021 launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to promote the country's stature to be among the best countries globally.
He also noted that the Quality of Roads Indicator in the Global Competitiveness Report 2015-2016, not only tackles standards of technical aspects in terms of implementing roads and engineering mechanisms, but also includes supporting standards for the economic development movement in terms of providing a supportive roads network for the international trade network in the country.
Other honours the UAE has also won included the International Road Federation's Award for Asset Preservation & Maintenance Management.
